Well Canada here I maybe come!

Yeah thats right the queen of indecision reigns again! Its just that as it was starting to get really cold here I remembered how much I hated the cold!! SOOOO..... my plan in my head now goes something along these lines.....Go to America and meet up with Brendon. Travel around for a couple of weeks. Head to Florida and try to get a job on cruise ship. Work on cruise ships over the winter (yay warm weather!) and then maybe head to Canada in the spring to work in bars or whatever. After that heead over to UK about june July. Of course you realise that this will all change next week!!

I also managed to get media accreditation for the Rugby World Cup - not entirely sure what this means so am trying to find out.ie do I still have to pay for tickets etc.  I'm sure tho that France will be hideously expensive during this time! So not sure if I can really afford it.

Well thats about it. Freakin cold here and I'm currently house sitting in a place with only 2 fan heaters for heating brrr.... Am jealouse of anyone who is in summer right now!

Canada Here I Come

Yip thats right. The Canadian Embassy has issued me with a "letter of introduction'" which is basically what they call their entrance visa. Woohoo! They're gonna let me in - obviously not many of my stories have gotten around ha ha. So I'm planning to leave in about early Sept prob around the 10th. Then going to LA. From there, its one of two options. #1 Meet up with my boyfriend Brendon [who just left the other day so I'm feeling all sorry for myself right now! :( ] and then we spend a couple of weeks travelling around the states before heading up to work in Canada now that we both have working visas for there. Then after about 9 months there we would head to the UK to do the 2 yr working thing before turning 31. Option #2 is to go to LA. Maybe or maybe not spend time in USA travelling around and then later in the month heading to France for the Rugby World Cup. You see, my darling Brendon managed to weedle his way into getting media accreditation for the World Cup as a "freelance photographer". So I've also now applied for that and if we both think we've got enought money we'll do that before flying back to Vancouver and working there. So I'm not really sure what I'm doing and when exactly I'll be in canada but you can guarantee that I will be there! And if anyone has any ideas about travelling cheaply in France I'd love to hear them - or if you've been and you know how much it cost ya to travel around a bit. So thats about all from me. Nothing that exciting here. There is snow on the mountains for the first time this year - for you north americans its pretty late considering a few of the ski fields were hoping to open this weekend. K. Take it easy Jen x

I am a major slack ass!

Yip thats right, its been over a year since I wrote anything on this space! I can't believe how time got away on my when really I haven't been doing that much. So what HAVE I been doing in the past year??? Well still at the same job - a lab technician. Unfortunately the job I used to love is no longer and instead I'm pretty bored by it now as its no longer challenging. So am I going to change my job soon you may ask... well YES I AM! In fact in about 5 to 6 months I'm planning to head to Canada to be a ski bum and work at a ski field over there. Its always been something I've wanted to try so I thought I should do it before I got too old and decrepid and couldn't get into the country under a working holiday scheme anymore (gotta get there before my 31st birthday!). So I'm pretty much just biding my time job-wise until I head overseas. Hopefully after the ski season I'm thinking I might head down the west coast of the US and then go into Central then South America. I've been managing to travel around the South Island of New Zealand a fair amount while I've been working. It's always nice to get away even if its only for a couple of days to have a bit of a change of scenery. This last weekend I went over to the West Coast for an event they call the Wild Foods Festival. Its a day of crazy food and costumes and just sitting around and chilling really. Absolutely loved it! I tried huhu grubs (a kind of beetle larvae), snails (although I'd tried them before), crocodile - which tasted a lot like tough chicken meatand I tried some perogies from the Canadians that were there. There were other things there that I didn't try like sheeps testicles, bull penis sausage, possum pie and worm truffles! Maybe another year. Well I'm off to try and organise my life and get a new passport so i can apply for my Canadian Visa. So to all you Canadians out there I may be emailing you soon and saying 'remember me' and 'how comfy is your couch?'

Christmas is upon us again

Hidey hi campers

Yip so its that time again - Christmas. The time when department stores don't stop playing christmas carols, children get the greedy gleam of presents in their eyes and your credit card is maxxed out!! Sigh! (thruthfully I love the cheesey christmas carols tho :-) )

So what have i been up to - well it feels like its been so much but when i think about it, it sounds like bugger all! Celebrated my birthday in November and had a barrel of a time (yeah bad pun i know!). For those who I haven't told, i went to a greek restaurant for my birthday where if its your birthday they make you dance on a barrel and then do some group, greek dancing - totally fun, aside from the shot of ouzo they made me have (why would anyone choose to drink that stuff is beyond me!).

Work is still really good. Loving it and the people are fab. Had our work christmas party a few weeks ago which went well, and yes, i was again one of the last ones standing!! (or stumbling, whichever way you wanna look at it!).

Went and saw a production of Oliver put on the by the Court Theatre. For NZer's it had Rima Ti Wiata and George Henare in it and was really good. Yip, I even shot out of my seat when the gun went off (even though I've seen the show a few times before - bad memory these days - must be old age setting in!!).

Had Christmas with the McTigue side of the family the other day. Christmas day was too full on for some of the other members of my family so we had to do it early. Was lovely and warm and there's nothing like a game of petanque on the front lawn!

For the real christmas day is just gonna be nice and relaxing. Staying at Mum's and having brunch with her side of the family. We've decided to give each other $2 shop presents so was kinda fun shopping for them. Bought my flatmate a present too - a whoopie cushion and a male file (a pic of a naked man on a nail file hee hee). Yip - my sort of humour ha ha.

Next week am off to Alexandra with Bec and Danny to see Dad. Well, truthfully it was the closest thing to a tropical island i could afford. For those non NZer's reading this, Alexandra is a small town in NZ that gets REALLY BLOODY HOT!!! And dad has a pool at his house so I'm thinkin New Years is going to be spent roasting myself beside the pool and reading Mills and Boons - yip totally high class vegging out!

Well thats about all from me but hope that wherever you are, you have a fab christmas (be it hot or cold)and have lotsa good times with family and friends.
Lotsa Christmas hugs and kisses all around

Finally got a permanent job!!!

Hi all

Well yes, finally I have a permanent job! Well I've had it for about a month now but just getting around to telling you about it.

Well... I ended up going for a job at a place called ESR (a govt owned institute in NZ and a leading science research place). They flew me up to the capital (Cal - my god you thought i was bad on the flight to Shanghai!! No way - 100 times worse!!). Anyhoo, interview went well however wasn't sure if i wanted the job cos it was in Wellington which is ages away from anyone i know and I would be a total no-mates if I went there!!  So after a few days I was fast asleep in my snuggly bed and my phone rung and the dude from ESR rung and said "well, normally I have to ring people to tell them they don't have the job, but I don't have to do that in this case". (remember i had just woken up!!) so I was like, "What???"

Anyway after all that, he told me i had the job and I asked for a day to think about it. So I got on the phone with my boss in Christchurch and told her that I'd just got offered a job in Wellington and I was going to take it unless my present company could offer me a permanent contract. So she said she would talk to her bosses and see what she could do. And ....drum roll... when i got to work that afternoon she called me into her office and offered me a permanent contract.

Yay I'm really happy cos I love working there. The people are all about my age and are fun to work with. After about 5 mins of being there permanently I was appointed head of the social committee - surprise surprise!! So I'm organising a bus trip with friends and colleagues. Its gonna be a blast.

Well i hope wherever you are you're having fun and doin what ya love
Love Jen
