August 29 A time of mourningWell this time my blog and the website colours are dedicated to my cat Ruskin, who died a week ago after being run over. Everyone who knows me, knows that I loved Rusky heaps and will miss him. He wasn't really a cat after all!!! He was actually a human in a cats body. He would sit at the dinner table on his chair while we ate dinner and reach over to claw your leg if you didn't give him any food. At night he would snuggle in bed with me with his head on the pillow and his body under the covers!! Awww how sweet eh!!! He was my baby for 5 years and i'll miss him lots. August 02 Bummin around in CHCHSo, well I didn't get the job in Dunedin as a molecular biology technician but I'm not too disappointed since the job didn't really turn out to be what i thought it was gonna be anyway. So I'm still in Christchurch (CHCH) and am just goin with the flow. Still working at Gribbles (microbiology lab) which I'm actually really enjoying. Didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I am. The work is good and the people at my work are really nice too. I'm just hoping they get a contract with a big client so that they can hire me permanently, since at the moment I'm just on a casual contract.
And....can you believe it....MY CAR BROKE DOWN!!!
Not much else to report other than i watched Dodgeball for about the 5th time the other night and still laughed my head off - god that's a good movie and made even better with hazlenut coffee and tim tams - mmmm..... July 26 A Bit of A Family ReunionWell in the last couple of days I've had some relatives in town. My Aunt Ann and her daughter (my cousin) Heather came over from Adelaide, Australia. My Uncle Danny also came to visit from Aussie. My Dad also came up from Alexandra, NZ. Was great having everyone together on the McTigue side of the family, esp since I hadn't seen my cousin since she was 7 (she's now 21!!!).
The girls all decided to go into town one day and go for a coffee. Well, what a sight we were....a group of about 6 of us with the average height of 5 foot 1
Had a blast and hopefully it won't be as long as the previous time before we all see each other again July 24 Photos UploadedHey Guys
Well finally got around to uploading some of my China photos - go have a look, hope they make you smile like they did me
July 11 Woohoo! A car!Yip, that's right - I've bought myself a wee car. Its a little Mazda hatchback and was my flatmates car but she just upgraded to some expenisve, boy-racer looking car. So, she gave it to me pretty cheap. Sooooo good having my own wheels again. Really tried hard to use the public transport here but CHCH is really nto set up for easy access public transport.
Unfortunately, petrol is so expensive these days that I'm probably going to be using the car sparingly anyway. The (extended) interviewThe interview - well..... It all started at 4.50am (!!!!! I'm so not a morning person!). Got up, got ready and got to the airport only to discover that my flight had been cancelled - thanks foggy Christchurch! So I tried to get another flight to Dunedin but no flights free for another 3 days so that didn't look promising! Waited for 2 hours at the airport til they put on a bus to get there - so yay, 5 hours on the bus for Jen.
Finally arrived in Dunedin at about 1:15pm (as opposed to my scheduled 8am!), had a quick lunch break then into the uni for my interview. 4 interviewers! - bit over the top if you ask me! Anyhoo, think it went ok, always hard to tell.
Went out and had a look at the lab I could be working in and was slightly disappointed to find it so high technology that everything is done by machines. Not quite what i was expecting.
Then they dropped me at the airport for (thankfully!!) an uncomplicated flight home. July 07 Tomorrow - The Big InterviewWell, tomorrow I have the big interview in Dunedin. Its for a company called Agresearch which as the name sounds is all about agricultural research in NZ. The job is a Molecular Biology Lab Technician - yay something I think I can really like.
The company is flying me down to Dunedin which is great cos phone interviews suck!!! However, anyone who knows me will be saying - "I bet she's nervous about the flight", which is totally right cos i hate flying!
The interview sounds really full on for it just being a lab tech job. I have to do all those wanky computer based assessments (numerical and verbal) and then do a personality profile - sheesh not like I'm trying to be brain surgeon or anything!!!!
Anyhoo, will keep you updated about how it goes
